INTRODUCING WINES FROM LPDV

The vineyards in Austria cover 51,000 hectares which, for the most part, lie in the east and southeast of the country. Amongst the wines produced here, white wines unquestionably make up the larger portion – cultivated in 70% of the vineyards are 22 white wine varieties permitted for high quality wine production. Nevertheless, red wine (13 varieties) has come to represent 30% of the vineyards in recent years. Austrian wines are certainly high in quality. Approximately two thirds of the wines are Qualitätswein, with some of these belonging to the best white, red and sweet wines in the world!

CARNUNTUM HISTORY

For years, archaeologists have excavated remains of early Roman culture from the history-laden soils of Carnuntum. Yet, the treasures produced by the 1,000 hectares of the area’s vineyards are similarly remarkable. Particularly red wines lead the way under the name of "Rubin Carnuntum"; their labels bear the symbol of the Heidentor (Heathen's Gate - the ruins of a Roman archway). Produced and presented proudly by their growers, these wines enhance the identity of the area.

REGION

Stony, heavy soils with clay, loess and and gravel offer the best conditions for red wines, particularly Austria’s leading varieties, Blauer Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, accompanied by the international varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The young wine-growers of the area take advantage of this natural conditions; after all, this is how they, within a short period of time, made their region a top name for wine. Their sexy red wines combine fruit and elegance and are modern in style, yet individual and true to their origins. LE PONT DE VIE is proud to be listing some of these great wines.
